Catterick takes centre stage on Racing TV on Friday and it would be nice to boost punting funds ahead of what will be a cracking weekend of racing action, especially in Ireland.
I very much fancy one in a modest handicap hurdle on Friday afternoon, plus I have another two selections on Catterick’s seven-race card.
Day one of the Dublin Racing Festival is previewed in our On The Wire podcast!
This horse had clearly schooled well over fences as he was gambled on at Musselburgh on his chasing debut last time. Although he was beaten, he certainly looked as though he will show improved form over the bigger obstacles.
He is running over two miles here which may be a slight concern, but there is definite pace in the race which will help and the jockey booking of Brian Hughes remains a positive.
There are two recent course winners in this handicap, but both are up in grade here - Mamoo markedly so - and face a much stiffer task this time.
However, the handicapper has dropped my selection to a rating of 125 - which is the ceiling for this event - and after running in Grade Two and 0-140 company with credit, he will find this much more pedestrian.
He was well backed and won comfortably last time he was in this grade and it could well be a similar story this time. I believe Teescomponents Lad is a strong bet here as he stays well and will appreciate the good gallop which looks assured.
It is quite a leap of faith sticking with this one, with the emphasis very much on the 'leap' as his jumping has fallen apart since he won at Kelso on his chasing debut.
He jumped well enough there, but on his next start made a bad mistake and I am taking the view that it might have knocked his confidence as he jumped with hesitation on his next outing.
A short absence since may be a positive and if he has got over his problems, he will prove too classy for these.
