Dave Nevison's top horse racing tips for Saturday

Got stopped in his run on more than one occasion at Sandown last time and definitely should have finished closer to Oceanline. Hopefully, he will avoid trouble here and gain compensation on 3lb better terms with that rival.

He is an expensive son of Dubawi who definitely looks as though stamina will prove to be his strong point.

Priano will be suited by the likely strong pace here in what is Haydock’s version of the Melrose. Andrea Atzeni keeps the ride here and the Roger Varian yard remain in top form.

Has performed with great credit in top grade handicaps, all over this trip, at Royal Ascot, Newmarket July’s Meeting and the Ebor at York where things didn’t really go his way. Despite top weight, he has a slightly easier task here and can see off a field of exposed handicappers.

His jockey, William Buick, has been in excellent form this week and it almost goes without saying the Charlie Appleby has his team in good order. He is 10lb higher than when he won at Newmarket in May but has definitely earned that, whereas the handicapper looks firmly in charge of most of his rivals.

Has a lot in his favour and can complete a course and distance hat-trick in this competitive event.

Thunderclap has won his past two races easily and steps up in grade here but I believe Hughie Morrison’s rapidly improving three-year-old is more than ready for the step up.

He has a good draw in stall 4 and should be able to sit and travel comfortably just behind front-running Hieronymous, who is drawn just inside.

Morrison has booked excellent 5lbs claimer Saffie Osborne and Thunderclap will have a feather weight.

He showed what he could do in the July Cup when thundering home and didn’t run badly last time at Deauville when he was simply found out by the rain-softened ground.

Fast ground is essential and he looks to get that here. And with the likes of Glen Shiel in the field, he will get a strong pace to run at as well. Starman has never been beaten on ground quicker than good and he rates a solid bet.
