Racing TV's resident tipster Dave Nevison is still smarting over the horse who let down his yankee, but is ready to give him a chance to atone on Friday!

3.15 Ffos Llas: Kestrel Valley

Matt Sheppard has had a quiet time of things recently but with two seconds from his past four runners, there are signs his stable might be hitting form, so Kestrel Valley might be worth chancing in this modest event.

The booking of Charlie Deutsch on a staying chaser for the first time always takes my eye, and the fact this race looks set to be run at a decent pace should bring the mare’s stamina, and Deutsch’s excellent judgement, into play.

At least a couple of runs last season suggest this eight-year-old can win off this rating, and she should come on for her reappearance.

This horse was going to land me the yankee in my Saturday column at the big Cheltenham November meeting and I was certainly not alone in backing him as he halved in price before the off and went off favourite. I was watching closely and was convinced that Harry Skelton was riding him very wide to make sure he stayed out of trouble, and I felt confident the win was coming for most of the way. But the caution was perhaps unnecessary as he managed to fall all by himself, to widespread annoyance. Well, mine anyway.

It was too early to call him the winner for sure but he was certainly travelling well when he departed. He is off the same mark here and still has the inexplicable 12lb drop in his mark since he last run over hurdles so remains seriously well in. He will go off at a relatively short price again with a lot of punters are chasing losses from even further back than me, but he doesn’t look one to give up on yet and I will be having a good bet.

3.30 Doncaster: Cornicello

Cornicello was pulled out at Taunton on Wednesday, but runs here over three furlongs further, so his trainer Jamie Snowden clearly thinks this test will suit him better.

He won for us last week in decent style when favourite at Wincanton and is obviously at the top of his form. He still looks very well handicapped carrying only 2lb more than that win in a conditionals' event.

This is the last day he is eligible to run off this mark and connections have obviously studied carefully where he should bid to follow up. He was a useful Flat performer as a juvenile in Germany, winning twice and then thought good enough to contest Listed events there, so there is every reason to think he can continue winning even as he goes up the weights.
