Dave Nevison's Royal Ascot day 3 tips: "At 33-1, he's overpriced"

It was obviously disappointing to see this promising three-year-old beaten at even money last time out after the colt had made such a huge impression when bolting up at Chester. 

However, he still ran well at Doncaster and a small field, plus a slowly run race, would not have been ideal, especially over a trip that is likely short of his best. 

I think the circumstances of this race might actually suit Daiquiri Bay much better. The competitiveness of this massive field guarantees a fast pace, and the extra two furlongs will definitely help this son of New Bay (his dam won over two miles). 

At first glance, the widest draw might be off-putting, but high numbers have a clear edge in recent seasons and he might have lucked out. Rossa Ryan is obviously a strong booking, and hopefully this selections might shock some shorter-priced contenders from the bigger yards. 

Clive Cox had been having a quiet spell, but his team have bounced back to form in the past few days, with a winner at Windsor and two 66-1 chances running brilliant races on the first day of this meeting. 

Fearnot won’t be a 66-1 chance, and can definitely be fancied strongly in what is probably the most difficult three-year-old only handicap of the year. 

He couldn’t have proclaimed his suitability for this race any better than winning by over four lengths over course and distance last time out. He has gone up 10lb but would have won that even off this new mark, and I believe he might still be well ahead of the handicapper. 

Fast ground is no issue and jockey David Probert won on him on his debut, so a good run is surely on the cards. 

Northern Express has a fantastic record at Ascot. He missed the break and was last on his first run here but since then, he has not been out of the frame in several big-field handicaps and won here in July last year in an 18-runner field. 

He is 2lb lower than that win now and, given he has finished runner-up in a Listed race subsequently, and didn’t get a clear run in the Hambleton Handicap at York last time but still stayed on nicely, he now looks as though he might be ready to win again. 

Jockey Paul Mulrennan will certainly be riding with confidence after his Group One success on Tuesday, and at 33-1, I think the old-timer is overpriced here.
