Our resident website tipster Dave Nevison takes aim at Tuesday’s good card at Pontefract, boasting over £110,000 in prize money and headlined by the Listed Weatherbys Bloodstock Pro Pipalong Stakes. Enjoy all the action live on Racing TV.

I am looking forward a cracking July Meeting at Newmarket as well as York this weekend, but Pontefract deserve a pat on the back for staging a really good midweek card featuring a strong Listed event.

3.45 Pontefract: Lampang

He needs to be forgiven a modest run in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot, but Lampang at his best is bordering upon Listed class and he has a good opportunity to show that class here.

A draw in stall 1 is a big advantage over the sprint track at Pontefract and Lampang should definitely be able to hold a good position on the rail. The gelding operation over the winter certainly looked to have had a positive effect at Ayr on his reappearance while Paul Hanagan, who won on him that day, is back on board here.

4.15 Pontefract: Alpha Cru

She returns to the course at which she broke her maiden before following up in a handicap last summer.

Alpha Cru subsequently ran a really good fourth here in a competitive handicap on her final start of last season, and from a mark 6lbs higher than her current rating.

The change of headgear here has to work much better than the cheekpieces did last time out but, in these circumstances, I am always happy to trust the judgement of a trainer of David O’Meara’s standing.

I feel there are enough positives for Alpha Cru to be worth a bet at a course she clearly loves.

5.15 Pontefract: Iur Cinn Tra

I am a believer in horses being able to out-class inferior rivals despite having to give weight away - especially so in sprint handicaps.

I always take note of David O’Meara horses who appear to be running below their grade, while there are out-of-form horses and habitual slow starters drawn inside of this in-form gelding.

Iur Cinn Tra ran a good race behind one that was clearly thrown in last time (already won again since) and doesn’t face any such improver here. In fact, the majority of these seem to be out of form.

In the expectation that he gets a good early position he should be difficult to pass.
