Dave Nevison: My top horse racing tips for Wednesday

I’m hoping a couple of horses who have so far landed me some place money have finally got the chance to notch a win at Musselburgh on Wednesday – one of four meetings you can enjoy on Racing TV.

3.15 Musselburgh: On A Session

Has rewarded me with each-way returns several times already but this definitely looks a race that he can win.

He is generally raced around a bend and that seems to suit him well, although he found himself too far back to challenge effectively at Epsom last time, still running well to be fourth.

He is back in 0-90 grade after three good runs in higher grade handicaps and the last time he raced at this level he ran second to the rapidly improving Totally Charming.

There doesn’t seem to be a rival that is massively well in here. More importantly, perhaps he looks certain to be able to sit just off what will be a strong pace.

3.50 Musselburgh: Irv

Irv is another who rewarded me in the places last summer without winning.

I haven’t been with him as yet this season but it looks like time to jump back on after his latest performance. Irv lost his form last autumn, when he was racing off marks much higher marks and running in better races, but he has run himself into form this term and is now about a stone lower than he was in the ratings.

He got headed on the line last time and definitely has races in him off his current mark. Ben Curtis rides Irv for the first time and looks a strong booking.

5.03 Thirsk: Balgowan

Has been something of a disappointment given his breeding but probably ran a career-best at Yarmouth last time when not beaten far.

William Haggas is equipping him with cheekpieces for this run and perhaps they will help keep him focussed in the closing stages.

Haggas looks to have found the right race for him and a win here before he is presumably sold to go hurdling would seem to be the plan.
