Dave Nevison: my free horse racing tips for Wednesday

It is not unusual for Tony Carroll to run more than one in a race, and I am hoping I might be on the best one with De Vegas Kid. He has dropped down to a mark below 60 and is 3lb below his latest winning rating, so is clearly well enough handicapped.

It is true he has run below form for a while, but his last two runs have been more encouraging, especially on his penultimate start when staying on nicely into fourth at Lingfield. On his latest start, he went very wide at Wolverhampton and had gave himself no chance but still ran respectably.

He should definitely be an each-way price with recent easy scorer Asdaa set to go off short. Charlie Johnston’s runner is not one to rely on and the value lies with De Vegas Kid.

May be appropriately named given the forecast for the next few days but there are more rational arguments to making him the selection. He is the solid option here, returning to form when runner-up here last time off a rating 3lb below his last winning mark.

Trainer Alex Hales has his string in good form, over jumps and on the Flat, so I am not concerned that this five-year-old has not had run since the end of November.

Billy Loughnane might be one of the names of 2023 and has already got off the mark for this year with a winner for Gay Kellaway. Unbelievably for an apprentice, he had seven rides at Wolverhampton on Tuesday.

He is on an outsider here in First Company but his mount has dropped to a very low mark - down another 3lb since last time before adding on Loughnane’s 7lb claim.

First Company has never run over this trip but his pedigree offers hope it will not be an issue and he did run by far his best race last season on his reappearance (off a mark of 80).
