Andy Stephens, armed with the RaceiQ data, suggests a trio to look out for on day four of the Qatar Goodwood Festival.
Glorious Goodwood: Raceiq Tips For Day 4
✅ 1.50 GOODWOOD: ALPHONSE LE GRANDE
Last 3f at Newcastle: 36.51sec (best)
Top Speed at Newcastle: 39.51mph (best)
Jamie Powell strike-rate on him: 50%
Alphonse Le Grande has slipped back to the same mark that he won the Cesarewitch off in 2024 and can take advantage for the Bet Small Win Big Syndicate who own him.
He is habitually held up but those tactics were overdone in the Northumberland Plate last time when he was still languishing in 18th with three furlongs to run. He kept on to be an eye-catching fifth with his Finishing Speed Percentage of 107.88% being easily best.
✅ 2.25 GOODWOOD: TALK OF NEW YORK
Highest Speed: 41.34mph
0-20mph form: 3212
Sandown Time Index: 9.9 (meet average 6.5)
Talk Of New York will not be much of a price but looks banker material dropping to Group 3 company after finishing a fine third in the St James’s Palace Stakes last month.
Before that he had clocked good numbers when winning at Newmarket and Sandown. At the latter track he won the Heron Stakes in a time 2.53 seconds quicker than the RaceiQ Par, with his Time Index being 9.9 when the meeting average was 6.5.
✅ 3.00 GOODWOOD: TRIBAL CHIEF
Draw: 12 of past 15 winners drawn low
FSP form this season: 111
Goodwood strike-rate: 50%
The RaceiQ data tells us Tribal Chief is routinely slow at the start but fast at the finish.
His 0-20mph speeds make for dismal reading but he’s had the highest Finishing Speed Percentage in ten of his past 16 races, including when winning at Goodwood last summer. Jamie Spencer has been summoned and if he can get him away on terms, from stall 4, then the combination could be in business.
