Curragh announce deal to promote rookie stallion Alkumait

The Curragh have announced a new sponsorship agreement to promote Alkumait, who recently joined the stallion team at Castlefield Stud in County Kilkenny.

The two-race package includes the first two-year-old race of the new Flat season on Saturday March 26, together with a maiden over 10 furlongs for three-year-olds and older horses on Sunday April 10. Both races will be an important part of launching and marketing the stallion’s career.

Trained by Marcus Tregoning, Alkumait ran five times, winning the fastest ever renewal of the Group Two Mill Reef Stakes as a two-year-old. The son of Showcasing was subsequently purchased by Capital Bloodstock to stand at Castlefield Stud in County Kilkenny.

Evan Arkwright, Racing and Sponsorship Manager at The Curragh, commented: “We are delighted to play an important role in the promotion of such an exciting new sire and the two year race in particular is a perfect fit to promote a racehorse who was such a high class juvenile.”

Jack Tuohy of Capital Bloodstock added: “Capital Bloodstock are delighted to sponsor the first two year old maiden of the year and the association with the race is fitting as Alkumait was one of Europe’s fastest juvenile in 2020. It is both nice and important to give something back to the industry.”

The breeder of the winner of the Alkumait standing at Castlefield Stud with a €100,000 Bonus 2yo EBF Maiden will be presented with a free nomination.

In another innovative initiative, Capital Bloodstock recently announced that a €100,000 bonus will be awarded for the connections associated with his first black type winner in 2025, with the breeder receiving 50%, the trainer 25% and the owner 25%.
