Coneygree to swerve Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham

Fri 26 Jan 2018

Coneygree will not run in the Betbright Trial Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham on Saturday, assistant trainer Sara Bradstock said on Friday.

Connections of the 2015 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, who has been pulled up in two starts this season, have decided to swerve the Grade Two because of the testing ground.

He will instead return to action at Newbury next month.

Bradstock told Press Association Sport: "We've decided we're not going to run on Saturday.

"It was always going to be tight after the wind op and especially with the way the ground is, so we've decided we'll wait for Newbury (Denman Chase).

"Newbury is only two weeks away (February 10), so we don't have long to wait - I'm delighted with him.

"We just don't want to rush him back and run on horrible ground."
