The Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby has long since been a marker for many punters as the time when the focus switches to the jumps and after enjoying my first on-course jumps racing shift of the season at that meeting on Saturday I’m certainly ready to switch over to jumps mode.
That said, the All-Weather Championships season is also under way and I always follow that closely as well.
Both of my selections for Monday run on the artificial surfaces.
Dargel looked back at the top of his game when returned to polytrack with a good third behind the in-form and improving Jabalaly at Chelmsford last time.
That looked a more competitive heat than this and the potential for a contested pace is a plus, as is the return of Adam Kirby in the saddle.
Now a non-runner.
Uncle Charlie is becoming a bit of a cliff horse for this column but he once again looked like a horse who is capable of defying his reduced mark when second here last time.
He would have gone close to winning that day had he got into the clear sooner and the way he moved through the race suggests he is in good heart.
The pace of the race looks likely to be solid and that will suit Uncle Charlie, who is at his best off a good tempo.
