The latest storm to hit the UK has decimated the racing programme over recent days and it’s taken its toll on Carlisle’s Monday card as the meeting is now an all-hurdle card afer waterlogging on the chase track.
From a punting perspective it’s the all-weather action at Kempton and Lingfield that appeals most to me. All three selections are at those venues, starting with:
2.35 Lingfield: Amaretto at 11-2 with William Hill
Amaretto held his form well after making a winning reappearance off a 4lb lower mark over course and distance in a first-time visor in March last year and could be ready to strike as he returns from a similar lay-off.
The visor that was left off on his final run (in a race that worked out well) is reapplied, while this is also his first go in a 0-60 since that victory having bumped into some well-handicapped horses in higher class races since.
3.10 Lingfield: Bank Holiday at a general 3-1
Bank Holiday showed improved form on her handicap debut at Wolverhampton last time on what was her first go beyond sprint distances but that race still looked an inadequate stamina test for her.
Outpaced on the turn, she kept on well in the straight to finish a close-up third in a race that appeals as fair form for the grade.
That run plus her pedigree, which suggests she’ll want even further than this, are pointers towards her being a likely improver as she goes over an extra furlong and a half here.
8.00 Kempton: Prompting at 4-1 with William Hill
Prompting has progressed with each run and looks capable of better still, having not had a chance to show his all at Lingfield last time.
Third behind the improving Toro Dorado, Prompting would have been up to giving the winner a real race if he had not met trouble in running up the inside rail when looking to make his challenge.
He did well to get as close as he did given the interference he met and with the time of the race good it appeals as a solid piece of form.
With the prospect of more to come on his second go over this trip off the same mark as for that handicap debut last time he appeals as a well-handicapped horse with an excellent chance from an inside draw.
