Boodles are to remain as title sponsors of the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 2023 and 2024, the year in which steeplechasing's most prestigious contest will celebrate its centenary.
The family-owned company first supported the race in March of this year, when Rachael Blackmore partnered A Plus Tard to an historic victory by becoming the first female jockey to succeed. The pair were roared home by a record crowd of 73,875 racegoers.
A Plus Tard wins the 2022 Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup
Since Red Splash landed the inaugural staging of the three-and-a-quarter mile contest as a jumps race in 1924, it has been won by some of the most famous names of all-time including Golden Miller, Arkle, Desert Orchid, Best Mate and Kauto Star.
In addition to its support of the Cheltenham Gold Cup Boodles also extends its sponsorship of the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at The Festival, which it has put its name to since 2018, for a further two years and gains further sponsorship rights across The Jockey Club.
Boodles’ first involvement with The Festival came in 2014, when it backed the Leading Jockey Award.
The 2023 edition of the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup will be run on Friday March 17 at the conclusion of the four-day Festival.
For the first time in 2022, the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup was broadcast successfully on national television in the USA via the Fox Sports network, which is available to 55 million households.
Michael Wainwright, Managing Director of Boodles, said: “After an epic build-up to this year’s Cheltenham Gold Cup and then a wonderful day for the race itself, capped by the charismatic Rachael Blackmore being the first female jockey to win it, the Boodles board had no hesitation in extending our association by another two years.
“The whole experience was fabulous exposure for Boodles, and for me personally it provided one of the best days of my life.”
Ian Renton, Managing Director for Cheltenham Racecourse and The Jockey Club’s West Region, said: “I am thrilled that Boodles has decided to further extend its relationship with The Festival by agreeing to sponsor the next two renewals of the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
“After enjoying a record attendance this year, the 2023 running of the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup takes place on St Patrick’s Day and the great race celebrates its centenary in 2024, so I am sure there are some truly memorable days ahead.
“Boodles is now approaching a decade of involvement with The Festival and hopefully has reaped the benefits of its association with the four biggest days in Jump Racing.
“Coverage of The Festival seems to start earlier and be more extensive with each passing year and it was a milestone moment this year when the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup received its first broadcast on national television in the USA.
“We look forward to continuing to work alongside the team at Boodles with their tremendous passion and commitment as well all our other partners, both old and new, in the coming times ahead.”

Jamie Snowden’s Wendigo came through his Cheltenham Festival preparations at Ayr with flying colours, with his trainer describing the race as “perfect”.
Last seen finishing strongly into third in the Grade One Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton over Christmas, he was taking a big drop in class for the Join Coral ‘Bet £10 Get £50’ ‘Chasing Excellence’ Novices’ Chase.
Only two were declared to take him on, Donald McCain’s Maximilian, a Grade Two winner over hurdles in January 2023, and Nick Alexander’s Donny Boy.
Maximilian set out in front under Brian Hughes and while Donny Boy briefly led, Gavin Sheehan did not waste time in sending Wendigo on.
Jumping with aplomb, the seven-year-old was soon a long way clear and the 1-5 favourite came home 22 lengths to the good.
Wendigo is a general 10-1 chance for the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham.
“You always hope it is straightforward when they are so short in the betting and thankfully it was,” said Snowden.
“It’s a good sign when after the last he picked up immediately, suggesting there was plenty left, it was a perfect race really.
“It’s a long gap between Kempton and Cheltenham so it was nice to get a run into him.
“We went right-handed at Christmas, but we always had a sneaky suspicion he was better left-handed and he did jump out to his left at Kempton. All the graded races between now and then like the Scilly Isles, the Reynoldstown and Pendil are right-handed so we had to go up to Ayr.
“He jumped beautifully today and I think he’s the best of the British in the Brown Advisory, but he’s not had four runs over fences which qualifies him for the handicaps. Our main aim is the Brown Advisory, but we do have options.
“We can watch the Irish this weekend now.”

Willie Mullins’ Charme De Faust made a successful Irish debut in the Thurles Maiden Hurdle.
Sent off the 5-6 favourite, the Rich Ricci-owned filly briefly looked as if she might have a race on her hands turning in but came home a powerful nine lengths clear.
She was cut to 14-1 from 25s for the Triumph Hurdle by Paddy Power.
Winning rider Paul Townend said: “She handled the ground well, will improve from it as she had a couple of blows and she jumped brilliantly. I was able to use her French experience and I think there is plenty of improvement in her.
“I liked how she did it and she has developing to do yet, to fill into her frame. I think she’ll have a nice future and when she strengthens up, she’ll be a fine mare.”

Gordon Elliott’s El Cairos survived a blunder at the final flight in his Thurles prep run to ensure he goes to the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham with a victory under his belt.
Promoted to the head of the betting for the Festival opener when on the verge of creating a huge impression on his hurdling debut at Leopardstown before falling at the last, he almost succumbed again.
Having lost his position as favourite to Nicky Henderson’s Old Park Star, El Cairos faced only one serious market marvel as he was sent off the 1-5 favourite for the ThurlesRaces.ie Maiden Hurdle and all was going to plan before he dived at the last.
Jack Kennedy was soon back on the bridle, however, going on to account for Roc Dino, beaten by Mighty Park last time out, by three lengths.
“It is job done and he never came out of second gear. Jack said it was his fault at the last as he said he should have either taken him back or asked him, but I loved the way he came back on the bridle straight away and you’d have to be impressed by that,” said Elliott.
“We came here looking for good ground so I was nervous, but it was either come here or to Navan or Punchestown next week, which was getting too close to Cheltenham.
“I don’t think he could have done any more and he is very fast. Jack said the boot he has is unbelievable. He’ll learn plenty from today and even racing in a big field will do him no harm. He’ll go straight to Cheltenham and he’ll be way better on better ground.”
Coral left El Cairos unchanged at 5-1 for the Supreme but Paddy Power pushed him out to 11-2 from 9-2.
