Angus McNae: My Qipco 1000 Guineas tip and Sunday selections

A fabulous day of racing ahead on Racing TV with the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket taking centre stage. I have four selections for you including a 5/1 shot in the fillies classic.

1.50 Newmarket: Sir Rumi

This Class 2 Heritage Handicap is well within the reach of this very smart handicapper.

Sir Rumi shaped very well at Musselburgh last time in the Queen's Cup when finishing fourth, faring best of those ridden prominently in a strongly-run race with the first three home held up. He ran a blinder in the circumstances, while the winner Enemy was unlucky not to win the Sagaro Stakes subsequently at Ascot.

Sir Rumi gets to run off the same mark (94) and given a repeat of his latest run - and a very decent second at Doncaster on his seasonal reappearance - he should go very well here.

3.40 Newmarket: Tuesday

At 5/1 there is plenty to like about this well-bred filly.

She is a full sister to Minding who won this race and the Oaks and, after just two runs, Tuesday possesses a huge amount of potential.

It is clearly a bonus that she has already had a run this season where she won nicely at Naas over a mile and she was very strong at the line without being put under maximum pressure. Her debut effort last season saw her beaten by the subsequent Moyglare winner Discoveries and she was only undone by inexperience there.

Tuesday is clearly a strong stayer at a mile and I can see her fulfilling her infinite potential here to give Aidan O Brien his fourth successive win in this race.

4.21 Hamilton: Cubana Habana

This Richard Fahey-trained gelding shaped with a tremendous amount of promise at Thirsk on debut and is poised to win here.

Cubana Habana raced off the pace that day whereas the winner made all in a steadily-run race. From his poor position turning for home he made good headway on the bridle before finding some trouble in running as he ran green, but he was really getting the hang of things close home and flew home in the last 100 yards to finish third - only beaten ½ length and a neck.

He was not given a hard time by Paul Hanagan that day and can reap the rewards of that experience now.

5.35 Salisbury: Queen Animatu

Queen Animatu could be a long way ahead of her mark as she steps out on the turf for the first time.

She was most impressive in winning her last two starts at Wolverhampton and Lingfield and a mark of 82 surely underestimates her ability. The time figure for her impressive win last time suggests that she could be at least a Listed filly in the making and, providing she handles the turf, she will be very tough to beat.

Her trainer William Haggas is clearly bringing her along steadily and that should reap considerable dividends as she progresses through the ranks.
