Advertise and Ten Sovereigns both ruled out of the Betfair Sprint Cup

Fri 6 Sep 2019

Ante-post favourite Advertise has been ruled out of Saturday’s Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock after returning a dirty scope.

Martyn Meade’s stable star claimed the third Group One victory of his career in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville last month – adding to his previous top-level triumphs in the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh and the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.

With Frankie Dettori booked for the ride once more, the Showcasing colt looked the one to beat in this weekend’s six-furlong feature – but he will not be making the trip from Manton to Merseyside.

Meade said on Friday: “Advertise returned a bad scope this morning and we had no alternative but to withdraw him.

“It’s not serious and he should be fine in a week, but we can’t take any chances.”

Advertise is now likely to head straight to the QIPCO British Champions Sprint at Ascot on October 19.

“I’d imagine that will be the plan now,” Meade added. “It’s disappointing he can’t run at Haydock, but there’s nothing we can do about it – that’s horses for you.”

Ten Sovereigns, the July Cup winner, has also been ruled out because of soft ground, with Ryan Moore switching to partner Fairyland.

O’Brien revealed earlier this week that Ten Sovereigns would not line up at Haydock if soft ground prevailed and the Ballydoyle handler confirmed his non-participation.

The No Nay Never colt is now set to be prepared for a trip to Australia later in the year.

“We didn’t want to run him on soft ground. We were hoping it wouldn’t be, but they got more rain there today,” said O’Brien. “He’ll probably go into quarantine now for Australia.”

Betfair spokesman Barry Orr said: "It’s obviously disappointing that both Ten Sovereigns and Advertise wont make the race but that leaves Khaadem heading our betting at 5-2.

"Dream Of Dreams has been a popular selection since we went up with the race and with conditions likely to suit he is likely to remain popular at 7-2. Ryan Moore now switches to Fairyland and we’ve cut her into 7-1."

Betfair Sprint Cup – sponsors updated betting: 5-2 Khaadem, 7-2 Dream of Dreams, 11-2 Hello Youmzain, 7-1 Fairyland, 8-1 Brando, 10-1 The Tin Man, Waldpfad, 12-1 Invincible Army, 16-1 So Perfect, 28-1 Forever In Dreams, 50-1 Major Jumbo.
