Trained by Michael Stoute, out of the great sire Northern Dancer, Ajdal went unbeaten through his two-year-old career before a stellar season over sprinting distances, including victory in this race, saw him crowned European Sprinter of the year in 1987.

Victorious in the 1993 running of the Nunthorpe, the Ian Balding-trained mare was a winner of 15 of her 27 starts including eight at Group-race level. Another to make all in the race, she stayed on strongly to win by a length and a half.

A fans’ favourite, Michael Dods’ popular mare went back-to-back in 2015 and 2016 with memorable wins on the Knavesmire, beating Limato by two lengths on the second occasion. She was recognised as the world’s leading female sprinter in 2015 on official ratings.

Won the 2008 running, when it was staged on the July Course at Newmarket, and then retained his crown at York as a seven-year-old 12 months later. The evergreen speedster was still winning in Listed company as a ten-year-old.
